Why we started?
I went on vacation to the island of Grenada and had my period early. Unfortunately, I did not have any period supplies with me. When I went to buy it, it was three times the cost of purchasing a pack of pads here in the United States. When I got home to New Jersey, I started researching the cost of period supplies and discovered period poverty. My research revealed a genuine need for sanitary napkins and other personal hygiene care products here at home among low-income families. I was seeking ways to help eradicate period poverty and improve the lives of these families. So I started a period poverty initiative, and the 4 C W Girls Foundation was born. The core function of our foundation is to help make period products more accessible and affordable for people who need them and to help raise awareness of period poverty, menstrual health, and the struggles people face when they don’t have access to these essential products. Our period poverty initiatives will also provide education and support to those in need, helping to destigmatize periods and ensure everyone can access the products they need.
